a.Brightness. With the same amount of LEDs,  usually 5050 strip are 3 brighter than 3528 strips.

b.width.5050 strip light are 5mm minimum wide, usually 8~12mm wide.While 3528 strips are 2.8mm to 8mm wide normally.

c.different applications.5050 strips are used in high light intensity applications, and 3528 used in more small products.

d.prices.5050 strips are 3 times more expensive than 3528 strips.

How to make the best 5050 or 3528 strip lights?

1.Use high quality SMD 5050 LED with USA/Japan/Taiwan Chips. Famous LED chips manufacutres are CREE,RICHIA, SAMSUNG,EPISTAR,BRIDGELUX, OSRAM, PHILIPS and Formosar.

2.Well designed circuit t o insure stability and good functions

3.PCB with excellent heat conductive ability.5050 strips will generate heat during usage, especially with lots of  Nos.The heat must be conducted and radiative transfered to the glues or air.

4.High quality resistors. Resistors must have the same lifespan as the designed lifespan of the 5050 strips.Even  LED can last over 50,000hrs, it means nothing if its resistors die before that.

5.3M tapes and glues. Outdoor lighting projects require strip lights to be waterproof.So it has to be sealed into glues, which should insure the efficiency of heat conduction and also maintain its chemistry structure and colors. Some glues become yellow and even black, by who the strips looks like emitting strange colors and dim.Also the 3M tape must last long enough, otherwise the linear strip light will twist or fall on the wall. It is  absolutely not what you want to see.

6.Applications requirements. Used in different applications or places,  strips lights can show differences. Some places are hot and some places are cold; some are facing UV and some are under water or other chemical materials. Some has good  ventilation conditions and some are almost sealed. It is vital  to know your applications before we design a suitable product.

Indoor LED display under p10, SMD 5050,SMD 3528 and SMD 0805 are used a lot.However, 5050 LED can be used outdoor as well, for its anti-UV.

So what are the differences between these two LED type?

1. size.3528 has a 3.5*2.8mm dimensions,also called 1210; the other has 5.0*5.0mm.

2.brightness. Typical 5050 is around 15lm ~20lm, while 3528 is 5~6.5lm, which means 5050 equal to 3 times of 3528 brightness….But different manufacturer may change the inside chip size to give a lower price.
